Ripple Effect Society

Summer has arrived!....

by Tara Knight, posted Tuesday, July 27, 2010
..and your Ripple Effect team is taking these sunny summer months to plan some fantastic ripple-making  events, opportunities and activities for you to participate in. We have had a bit of change and new energy lately on our Ripple team, and looking forward to making this next year one of our best!

Every action and choice we make contributes to our world. Ripple Effect Society creates social volunteer events for young professionals to network and give back to the local community at the same time. We believe every “ripple” we create will bring a cascade of goodness to our community.

You have probably noticed
we have not had as many events recently as we would like. We would like to change that for the fall. One of the ways we can this is to find out what you like (and maybe what you don’t!) about the events that we hold. Right now, we are running a survey (we would love your feedback – click here for the survey) about what you love, like and would like to see more (or less) of in our programming.

Ripple Effect believes every “ripple” we create will bring a cascade of goodness to our community! If you have an idea for an event, we would love to hear from you. As a group of volunteers, we try our best to keep you up-to-date, informed and active Ripplers!  If you have something you would like to contribute – get in touch –

Thanks –

from your Ripple Effect Team

Mother's Day Tea and Little Mountain Place

by Jasbir Uppal, posted Sunday, May 09, 2010

On Saturday, May 8th, 2010, a team of 8 Ripplemakers celebrated the Mother’s Day weekend by continuing a longstanding tradition: We volunteered at the Mother’s Day Tea at Little Mountain Place , which is home to over 100 seniors. After networking and introductions over a slice pizza and pop, we proceeded to transform the dining hall into a ‘Tea Room’. When all the preparations were done, we welcomed residents and their families, and waited their tables, serving tea and dessert. The room was decorated in a beautiful butterfly motif and the atmosphere was rendered even more elegant by a percussion band that played old standards. It was a wonderful event, and especially meaningful for those of us Ripplemakers who could not mark Mother’s Day with our moms. We are once again grateful to Julie and the amazing team of Little Mountain Place staff and volunteers who continue to share this event with us.

Serving Up Goodness at First Baptist

by Celia Quigley, posted Tuesday, April 20, 2010

On April 13th, a small group of Ripple Effect volunteers spent the evening serving dinner to the homeless at First Baptist Church's shelter.  Our volunteers were kept on their toes as they dished out a wonderful, savoury chicken dinner - complete with cake and ice cream - to over 120 guests.  Some of the highlights of the evening for me were:

Tara
– staying cool while serving from steaming pans of chicken

Melanie and Pauline – working together to quickly become the perfect salad and dressing team

Overall, it was a wonderful experience for everyone.  I look forward to working with you again at future Ripple Effect Society events.

Cheers,
Celia
